| Developed by America's pioneer women in the early 1800s, candlewicking used only the simplest of materials readily to hand -- muslin, cotton, and the thread from which it derived its name, the cotton twist yarn used as a wick in candle making. Traditional fabrics are still used today, though now they are of better quality and the variety of threads available is extensive. The traditional color of cream is still most favored, although some subtle colors are now creeping in.
